A precis is a summary or paraphrase of a longer text. It should contain no conclusions or opinions, only restatements and simplifications of the existing piece. It should use different vocabulary from the original. It should contain the original author's opinions and main points. It usually follows a four-point structure with four sentences. However, for this precis, you may use from four to eight sentences.
One way to begin creating a precis is to make a mindmap of the text, identifying the thesis, main points, subtopics, and conclusion. |
