Challenge - LOGO
Client: Allan Graphic Design Studio
Brief: You are one of the apprentice designers working for Ms. Julie Allan's studio.
You are going to be creating a product pitch for her as one of your assignments in this class,
but for the challenge you need to do something a little bit extra: you need to create a logo for your product.
Design a simple logo - you can choose from any of the three main types of logos and their subtypes, here.
Add the logo onto any of the slides in your product pitch that show the product.
Check the example product pitch presentation here, and notice how Julie has added the 'Face Spa'
wordmark logo onto all the Showcase slides. You should do the same thing for your product.
Deliverable: a JPG or other graphic format file, showing your original logo.
Deadline: (See the Tasks page for details.)

Please look at the two pictures below. The first picture, on the left, shows Julie Allan's 'Face Spa'. This is an imaginary product that can do all kinds of amazing things for your skin. The logo is made of the curved words 'Face Spa', and it has been photoshopped onto the product image of 'PURE Facial Steamer' - the original image on the right. if you look very carefully at the left image, you can still see the white smudge where the 'PURE' logo has been removed. The product pitch for the Face Spa can be watched here. Look at the product images and see how Julie has replaced the original logo with her own.
DISCLAIMER: As a professional graphic designer working in a commercial environment, of course you should never do this. You would not alter or parody existing logos, nor would you take photos of other companies' products! In real life, you would be given actual products or mockups to work with, but for the purposes of this class, you are just learning how to give presentations and work in an all-English environment.

You will be doing the same thing for your product pitches: choosing a product you want to 'pitch' or sell to us, finding product images that represent your idea as a mockup, and then replacing the logo with your own design. For example, if your new product is a coffee drink, you could take a photo of your famous coffee shop latte, create a pink manatee logo, and then replace the green mermaid logo. This makes your product pitch more realistic and interesting. Here you can see that someone has made a parody using My Little Pony ;)

Of course, you don't have to parody or copy a famous logo! Please feel free to design your own logo for your own product. Also, your replacement does not have to use professional Photoshop skills - as long as the original logo is covered, that is acceptable. For example, here are six commercial coffee tumblers that have had their logo 'replaced' in Paint - it's crude, but it's allowable! And make sure you credit your image sources.
Here are some useful tips for first-time logo designers.
You can choose from any of the three main types of logos and their subtypes, here. Please read the link carefully and decide which type you would like to create. A - Logotype - primarily a word or phrase B - Icon - a symbol or picture C - Combination - word plus image Once you've chosen your logo style, use paper (not a digital program!) and pencil to sketch and brainstorm some ideas. Then create your favorite digitally. There are actually a lot of steps to designing a professional logo, and we don't have the time to learn them in this class! But remember: A great logo is:
