FOODBOARDS - A Designer Brief
Assignment:
Felicia Chan is a young chef starting up a fusion restaurant. She wants you to choose a colourful food and create a 'foodboard' to inspire the interior design for her new place. Choose any food-themed paint chip from this Pinterest board and create an A4 moodboard poster for her. (or, offline, choose a paintchip from your instructor's selection of paint chips with 'food' names ) The NAME of the paint chip should be a type of food. That food, and its colour, should be the main inspiration for your A4 'foodboard' (food-themed moodboard) for your client. Save your finished 'foodboard' to your Pinterest board. Email your professor the JPG version. Watch the first part of this video (0:00 - 12:55 minutes ) to learn about moodboards/foodboards.
Keep watching the second part of the video (12:55 - 29:30) - if you are NOT a designer or aren't sure HOW to create a moodboard! |
You should include:
- the original inspiration paint chip, with its food name clearly shown.
- a colour palette with 3 - 5 complementary or contrasting colours (you can choose matching names!)
(you can use any of the colour schemes you've learned about in Design Elements,
and you can use any of the colour palette generators at the bottom of this page to help you! )
- several pictures of the food (perhaps the raw ingredient, as well as dishes made with the ingredient) featured on your inspiration paint chip.
- at least one interior picture featuring that colour so that the chef can imagine what the restaurant will look like.
- one feature decor item (furniture, plates or cutlery, light fixture, wallpaper, artwork, etc.)
- a 'background' image or colour that relates to the food/colour name

The colour chips in the picture above are from your professor's collection. You can pick any of the colours/names and use them to inspire you.
You may also search for your favorite food and see if you can find a paint chip or Pantone chip with that food name!
And if you want to be really creative, you can pick your favorite food and rename a paint chip 'Budae Jjigae (부대찌개) ' or 'Fried Chicken' :)
